When they spit – don’t sit quiet!

It’s just disgusting! To spot people spitting left, right and center. On roads, stations, parks, subways, lifts… and the worst-of-all - staircases. Eeeeks! What a terrible sight it is!

And what do we do about it? Make a face and turn it away. After all, this is Indiayaha, saab chalta hai! Right?

Wrong! Very, very wrong! Yaha saab chalta hai, because we are a bunch of cowards who would sit tight when a horrible social crime is being committed. A bunch of hypocrites who would dare not litter streets abroad, but generously donate dirt to Indian roads – after all, a drop of dirt won’t harm the great Indian dumping road. What say?

Our city is dirty because we are allowing it to be. Instead of blaming the government and BMC, let’s blame ourselves for being mute spectators to the spitting-saga so far.

But not anymore. Next time, you catch an ugly sight of someone spitting, make a polite yet firm request – Please don’t spit. Let’s keep our city clean.

Starting today, you have a choice: To say, ‘Who cares.’ Or to show ‘I care.’
